DIY - Hand-Painted Gift Wrap
Beautifully decorated paper…
To complement one of my special new Christmas themes; Dreamy White Christmas, I recently spent a lovely afternoon decorating my own wrapping paper.
I used a decorative paper roller with a woodgrain finish which has sat patiently in my craft cupboard, waiting for it’s official debut…I love these paint rollers, I also have an alligator roller I’m looking forward to using and even have my eye on a few more gorgeous ones to try in future, like these lovely decorative designs from Nordic.
The trick, I’ve found, when it comes to painting and decorating your own paper, is to use a heavy, good quality paper - uncoated is the preference, as the paint tends to bleed on paper that’s too light or or has too much sheen.
Although beautiful for wrapping gifts, you can also use your paper to extend your chosen theme throughout the table - cut strips and band around your Christmas crackers, use for table favour tags, or place setting names too….however you end up using yours, have fun and enjoy the process! xx
What you’ll need:
Large sheets of heavy, good quality paper that are cut to your desired size
Paint - watercolour or acrylic (I’ve used Resene, metallic )
A small paint tray
A decorative paint roller
To make your paper:
Start by covering your craft station with newspaper, or something else that is disposable, then place one of your sheets of paper on top of it.
Drizzle a little of your chosen paint into the small paint tray and then run the roller through the paint covering it completely.
You can roll it once on some scrap paper to remove the excess and then roll away, covering the sheet of paper completely with your decorative design!
Don’t worry about the finish being perfect - a little imperfection creates uniqueness.
Have fun xx
