Hellebores…The Beautiful Winter Rose

In a baron winter garden these beautiful plants are breathtaking, they come alive while other plants close-up shop for the season, patiently waiting for warmer days.

My parents grew a wonderful patch of Hellebores.  After they passed, my gardener was out at their countryside home preparing the garden for sale - he kindly dug out a huge plant of these magnificent beauties to bring back to my garden… I was, of course, delighted.  I do however fear they miss their original home, as my trees and soil (predominantly clay where I am located in Remuera, Auckland) isn’t exactly the Hellebores' favourite… but I am playing the long game, determined that they will adapt and grow a little faster with every passing year.  I will keep you posted on their progress.

The delightful flowers photographed are commercially grown, and I am loving their dreamy colours. They lend themselves to small vases and candlelight…only a stylist would match a macaron with a flower, but how can you not!
