Love is in the Air

Simple Ideas for your Valentines Day

Love, romance and beauty are three things that make my heart sing….so, with Valentines Day just around the corner, I’m sure it’s hardly surprising to hear I’ve already been planning a few little treats to celebrate!

While the day can sometimes feel it’s exclusively for those in relationships or with potential beau’s and belle’s, I’ve always felt that it’s more so a day (and perfect excuse) to honour love in its many expressions…so whether it’s love for another or self-love for you this year, here are a few simple valentines ideas to invite a little romance and beauty into the day!

Pomegranate Valentines Cocktail

Synonymous with love and passion, red is the perfect colour for Valentines! In this recipe, (ever so slightly adapted from Stanley Tucci’s Christmas Cosmopolitan) pomegranate and cranberry lend their gorgeous hues to this delicious cocktail!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 Tablespoon pomegranate seeds

  • 50ml Scapegrace Vodka

  • 25ml Cointreau

  • 25ml Cranberry juice (either unsweetened or cranberry juice cocktail. Your preference)

  • 25ml Pomegranate juice

  • Ice

  • Cocktail Shaker

  • Your favourite cocktail glass, pre-chilled

  • 1 Toothpick

  • Raspberries and mint leaves to garnish

Serves 1

To Make Your Cocktail

Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, then measure out your core ingredients into the shaker

Place the lid on your cocktail shaker and shake for around 10 seconds.

Pour your mixture into your cocktail glass.

Thread raspberries and mint leaves onto the toothpick and garnish by adding to your cocktail.

Serve and enjoy x

Painted Gift Wrap & Hearts

The process of painting this wrapping paper is so simple, yet the result is a bright and beautiful mix that’s thoroughly lovely to create!  Enjoy splashing magenta and reds together and letting your creativity flow!

I’ve made both gift wap and hearts which are perfect for love notes, affirmations of self-love, gift tags or even simply as decorations!

What You’ll need:

  • Heavy grained white watercolour paper

  • Liquid acrylic paints (I have used Schminke Aero Color in Primary Magenta & Red)

  • A small bowl of water

  • A clean paintbrush

To Make Your Paper & Hearts:

As you’ll be working with liquids, it helps to prepare your space a little; I usually place some plastic covering on the table first.

Using your paintbrush, wet your paper down with water .

Drip colour on the wet paper organically, allowing the colours to naturally blend and layer where the water pools.

Allow paper to dry flat.

Carefully cut out heart shapes once the paper has dried (I find it helps to draw the hearts with a pencil first.)

Valentines Day Candles

“A rose speaks of love silently in a language known only to the heart.” – author unknown

I’m sure you’ll be as smitten as I am with these exquisitely fragranced candles from Carrière Frère and Diptique; their nuanced rose perfumes seem to exude romance.

Fresh, woody and floral, damask rose and benzoin create a delicate scent in this beautiful offering by Carrière Frère.

Tender and feminine, ‘Roses’ is a classic ode to romance by Diptique.
