The Best of Friends

Anybody who knows me knows that I will never drink beautiful wine or champagne out of any glass, the glass needs to be worthy of the wine. It took great skill and determination to create the wine, a wonderful thing of value, and in turn the glass highlights the beauty and showcases this skill perfectly.

When I open a bottle, to me it is a celebration. I never drink when I am sad, after all, I am fairly sure wine was created to bring people together. The glass says so much about the person who purchased it…sometimes it highlights a pedigree, style, or simply a more robust requirement. To me the glass is the jewellery of the table.  Do you want it to sparkle? - hence, crystal;  or do you want it to co-ordinate with your napkins? My father taught me how to wash and polish a glass and I perfected this straight away…they would sparkle on the table with the candlelight, I was smitten! Being a stylist at heart one can never have too many glasses (I can hear my husband sigh right about now!).  However, they bring me joy, yes, they really do!  Glasses can be tactile like the tartan style of the Ralph Lauren Hudson Plaid, or the optical swirl of the Georg Jensen, or perhaps the simple Chateau Kosta Boda glass. I would definitely say there is a glass for all our styles and budgets. The awful little pub wine glasses that seemed to surface everywhere when I was younger were enough to put me off drinking!

Now to the wine.  I love beautiful labels that adorn the bottles.  It is important that after all the hard work and skill that the winemaker channelled into their vintage, the label should reflect all that love, and shine for all to be bedazzled by. Wine and their labels can put a spell on us - it is the nectar of the gods and we all fall under its spell.

The beautiful labels from Terra Sancta caught my eye immediately, and the stunning wax seal on The Italian was enough to have me serving this at my dinner parties, just on looks alone…although of course the contents created a memorable evening.  My previous blog posts have featured Terra Sancta’s stunning Aperitivo Botanical, both visually spectacular and also a taste sensation…another beautiful product with stunningly crafted labels.

Chene Bleu labels make you think of the pedigree of the wine along with the history, and of course it helps that when opened, it makes any meal seem like a celebration. My love of Louis Roederer Rose comes from numerous trips to Paris. My husband and I love going to wine stores in Paris and that is where I found this beauty packed in its perfectly pink tactile box (sadly, not the packaging that we get in NZ), yes that label did it...and now I think of it as my little bit of Paris!  I particularly enjoy this champagne when I feel I need a little touch of Paris and all its magic…whoosh, that experience floods right back!

The stunning roses pictured blend beautifully and highlight both the glasses and the wine…the seductive petals almost tease the wine!  After all, these are all things of value, which make the world a better, beautiful place, and that is a very good thing.
