The Joy of Repurposing

There is something quite comforting about the common jam jar - it is so practical and accommodating, it takes constant abuse from continuous handling and use, yet always looks pretty with either preserves or simple garden flowers.

I remember as a small child walking home from primary school I would pick any pretty flower within my reach - they seemed to call to me.  Upon my arrival home I would present them to my mother…not so sure she approved because she would always ask if I had stepped forth into anyone’s garden to collect these pretty treasures. They would then be plopped into a jam jar and placed on the windowsill.  The sunlight filtered through the water and made them quite dreamy.

Over the years I have created many jam jar flower arrangements - I love the simplicity. Autumn is perfect for these small, sweet displays as the garden flowers are shorter and the bloom size is much smaller.  Complete your arrangement with flowering herbs, to fill the gaps nicely, and voila…you are done!  Pop the jars down in the centre of your table for mass appeal.

Happy foraging!
