Cool nights call for hearty meals, warm firesides and the occasional glass of exceptionally good red wine.

Luckily, finding such a wine has been an easy task this season after our Son gifted us with a bottle by The Landing Wines and introduced us to the wonderful local winemakers located in the Bay of Islands.

The Landing Wines produce boutique vintages of Chardonnay, Syrah, Pinot Gris, Rose and even a Port, all from the sprawling vineyards that tumble over 23 acres of premium Northland terroir. The vineyard itself is set amongst a remote and beautiful coastal estate of over 1000 acres, where the winemakers have regenerated the land and favour a nurturing and sustainable approach to both land and viticulture.

This devotion to their craft is evident in their distinctive and complex wines and I have particularly enjoyed the smoky and spiced finish of the Syrah, rich with wild cherry, dark berries and cocoa - I even served it at my Winter Solstice dinner last weekend.
