Beautiful Camellias
July is here and in New Zealand that means the days are shorter and colder. It’s not all dreary, however, as this is also the time of the year that Winter flowers flourish and gardens are a riot of colour from beautiful Camellias in full bloom.
My garden is loaded with Camellias, so I’ve been enjoying collecting and displaying their stunning flowers throughout the house over the last few weeks.
They are such interesting flowers. I love the way their delicate petals, all lightness and fragility, are balanced out by the leaves; with their simple, hardy structure and lacquered finish. Though Camellias come in a vast array of colours, the main shades making an appearance in my garden this year are a range of magentas, fuchsias and ballerina pinks. Despite their deep colouring and resilient leaves, extra care is required not to bruise their petals.
I’ve used my newly arrived Mason Cash woodland jugs to display these beautiful blooms, as well as my Anthropology Grecian Bust vase.
