Autumn Cocktail Guide
Autumn Cocktail Guide
I had a wonderful weekend trialling delicious cocktails. Thanks to my friends at Scapegrace, I had some beautiful New Zealand gin on hand, with their unique black gin and world glass gold gin.
First on the list was a delightful Negroni, easy to make and refreshingly bitter. The ingredients are:
30ml Gin (I use Scapegrace Gold)
30ml Sweet Wine Aperitif (I use Lillet Blanc)
30ml Campari
1 orange wedge
Instructions:
Cut an orange wedge that you will use as a garnish, and rim your cocktail glass using another piece of orange. Fill a mixing glass with ice, then measure out the ingredients into the glass and stir. Strain into a glass filled with ice (I use this old-fashioned glass). Garnish with the orange wedge. Serves 1.
The next is a twist on my personal favourite, The English Garden cocktail. The ingredients are:
30ml Gin (I use Scapegrace Black)
30ml Creme de Pamplemousse, a grapefruit liqueur (I use Massenez)
30ml A wine-based aperitif (I use Lillet Blanc)
30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
Ice
Piece of lemon peel
Instructions:
Cut a piece of lemon peel and rim your cocktail glass. Fill your cocktail shaker with ice, then measure out your core ingredients into the shaker. Place the lid on your cocktail shaker and shake for around 10 seconds. Pour your mixture into your cocktail glass (I used a Ralph Lauren glass), and gently place the lemon peel into the centre of your cocktail. Serves 1.
This is a zesty start for an afternoon cocktail. The ingredients are:
Handful of limes
30ml Gin (I use Scapegrace Gold)
Sparkling mineral water
Sugar
Ice
Instructions:
Mix 2 cups of lime juice with 1 cup of sugar, mix until dissolved. Add a slice of lime into a glass and muddle. Add ice, 60ml of lime juice, 30ml of gin and top with soda water. Serves 1.
A simple gin and tonic can go a long way and I enjoy using an East Imperial tonic to bring out the beautiful botanicals within Scapegrace Black gin. The ingredients are:
30ml Gin (I used Scapegrace Black)
150ml Tonic ( I used East Imperial Yuzu Tonic)
Ice
Instructions:
Add ice, gin and tonic to a cocktail glass and stir. Garnish with a pansy. Serves 1.
Heading into the evening, this comforting Iced Celebration Tea was a perfect blend of autumnal spices. The ingredients are:
30ml Gin (I use Scapegrace Gold)
250ml boiling water
1 tsp Harney Autumn Tea
Sparkling water
Lemon verbena sprig
Ice
Instructions:
Steep the tea in 250ml of boiling water for 3-5 minutes and chill in advance. Pour 60ml of tea into a cocktail shaker with ice, add gin and stir. Pour your mixture into a cocktail glass with ice (I used my Vera Wang Vintage Waterford glasses) and top with sparkling water. Garnish with a lemon verbena sprig. Serves 1.
Enjoy,
Sandra xx
