My Autumn Table

While the leaves start to turn, the shadows grow longer, the sky becomes clearer, and the mornings more crisp…we get to take a sigh of relief as once again the seasons indicate change.  So too does the way we select and serve our food.  In turn, decorating the table needs to reflect the natural bounty and colours of the season.

Anyone who knows me appreciates that I consider the forthcoming season of autumn to be when nature opens her doors (like a special retail experience) and bestows gifts upon us.  They include acorns and leaves, fruits and nuts.  It is early autumn here in New Zealand, and many of these gifts are yet to be given, along with the beautiful colours this season represents.

For this shoot I selected a throw in vibrant reds and greens, along with linen placemats and napkins, pretty autumnal hydrangeas, and of course delightful green plates.  The commercially grown roses in these images seem right at home with the garden hydrangeas and dahlias, and my Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage jug is the most divine vessel to display such beauties…the colours simply pop!  Be sure to use flowering herbs to add additional texture.  I also like to include coloured water glasses to add another layer of interest to the table.

Happy decorating! x
