Summer Pastels From My Garden
Over the last few weeks, my garden has produced an abundance of beautiful pastel flowers. David Austin Roses, Dahlias, Feverfew, Dianthus, Viola, Pansies, Queen Anne’s Lace, and Jasmine. I couldn’t help but shoot them together with various herbs and strategic greenery.
I have found that flowers from the garden don’t often last as long as flowers from growers or imported. Mine are particularly sensitive to heat, so I have to be quick when shooting them, and they don’t last as long in vases.
As these flowers are all complementary shades, they are a delight to the eyes when paired. I am quite relaxed with their placements in vases - slightly ‘messy’ is best, so it looks as though they were just plucked from the garden.
You can find all of these beauties from garden centers and growers - choose pastels and they should work well together. While the best time to plant is usually Spring, or Autumn for bushes and trees, look up individual plants for their best planting conditions. Also, I have found that when my plants are blooming, cutting flowers regularly encourages further growth.
An addition to my garden would be Sweet Peas. I just love them for their delicate flowers and intoxicating scents! I have run out of room for the moment, but would like to include them in future plantings.
Enjoy xx
